What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a mental health profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.

Art therapists use art as a “tool” to help people, much like talk therapists use words. Art therapy may teach art techniques, but art therapy is not art instruction. Art therapy focuses on the artmaking process and content, and not the appearance of the finished art piece. Therefore, art therapy is something anyone can do regardless of their artistic ability. The art therapy sessions are beginner friendly, as well as for people who might have some background in art, although that is not a requirement.

How does Art Therapy work?

As an Art Psychotherapist, I believe in the power of creative expression as a pathway to understanding and healing. In our sessions, we’ll use various art materials and techniques, not to create masterpieces, but as a gentle way to explore your thoughts and feelings. The art you make can sometimes express what words cannot, offering new perspectives and insights into your inner world. Through this process, and our conversations around your artwork, we can work together towards greater self-awareness, emotional well-being, and positive change.
I guide individuals through self-evaluation and creative expression to identify and develop personal goals in a safe, non-judgmental space.

My Open Window – My Art Space

My Open Window is my personal space of reflection, exploration, and expression through art. It is where I allow myself to pause, observe, and respond to the inner movements of thought and feeling without the need for explanation or outcome. Through this space, I reconnect with myself beyond roles, responsibilities, or expectations.

This art space is not about perfection or performance; it is about presence. Each piece I create is a window into my journey sometimes unclear, sometimes bold, always honest. My Open Window is where I honour silence, welcome emotion, and give form to the unseen aspects of my healing and growth.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the creative process of making art to support emotional well-being, self-expression, and healing. It’s not about artistic skill or producing “good” art, it’s about using colors, shapes, and images to explore thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to express in words.

Guided by a trained art therapist, individuals of all ages can work through trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, or stress in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Art therapy can also enhance self-awareness, build confidence, and promote personal insight. It’s a powerful tool that blends psychology and creativity to support mental and emotional health for one-on-one and group sessions.

Social-emotional Learning with Children

Socio-emotional learning (SEL) with children focuses on helping young minds understand and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions. It creates a foundation for empathy, resilience, and self-confidence—skills that are just as important as academics.

By encouraging children to dream, reflect, and express themselves—just as Einstein suggests—we give them the tools to not only succeed in school but to thrive emotionally and socially in everyday life. SEL fosters a safe, inclusive environment where every child feels seen, heard, and valued.

Emotional Wellbeing Workshops

For students, adults, corporates

In our busy lives, it’s easy to overlook our emotional health, yet it significantly impacts how we navigate stress, build relationships, and experience overall life satisfaction. These workshops offer a unique blend of creative activities and thoughtful guidance designed to foster personal growth, encourage your authentic self-expression, and deepen your self-awareness.

By exploring our inner world through creative expression and guided activities, we can gain deeper insights into our patterns, learn healthier coping mechanisms, and cultivate a greater sense of inner peace and balance. Investing in your emotional well-being is an investment in your overall health and happiness.

Art Workshops

These art workshops offer vibrant spaces where creativity flourishes and self-expression takes center stage for individuals of all ages. Through engaging, hands-on activities with diverse art materials, participants can enhance their motor coordination and develop healthy habits of focus and engagement.

Art becomes a powerful tool to explore and express emotions in a safe and supportive environment. This creative process also stimulates mental agility and supports healthy neurological development by fostering new connections and encouraging innovative thinking. These workshops are designed to nurture the whole person  emotionally, mentally, and neurologically empowering them to grow into well-rounded and expressive individuals.

Human Library

Imagine a library where instead of checking out books, you can “borrow” a person. This is the core concept of the Human Library, an international movement that aims to challenge judgements and foster understanding through dialogue. A beautiful community-building space where individuals volunteer to be “human books,” sharing their personal stories and experiences with “readers”.

About Me

An art psychotherapist, counsellor, and creative facilitator dedicated to building spaces where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to express their true selves. My work weaves together psychology, art, and human connection to support emotional well-being, self-discovery, and healing.

With a Masters  in Art Therapy (MFA AT, MIT School of Fine Arts, MIT-ADT, Pune) and a deep interest in mental health, I’ve spent the past several years working across diverse settings — from schools, wellness festivals and senior living communities to private sessions and corporate workshops. Whether I’m facilitating a sip-and-paint evening, designing a socio-emotional learning module for children or guiding adults through art-based therapeutic sessions, my aim is always the same: to nurture creativity, authenticity, resilience and growth.

As a visiting faculty member, a lifelong learner, and someone who’s genuinely passionate about emotional growth, I believe that creative expression is not just a tool — it’s a language of healing. Through this journey, I’ve collaborated with organizations, NGOs, schools, and individuals to co-create experiences that are meaningful, transformative, and deeply personal.

If you believe in the magic of art, the power of stories, and the beauty of being human — you’re in the right place. Let’s explore the joy of creating, together.
